Giving Back

In March 2004, my mom passed away. She was my best friend and my life hasn't been the same without her. In February 2008, my father passed. With both of them gone and their estate being settled, I found myself with an opportunity of a lifetime. Once the holiday season started, Chrissy asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I responded that I wanted to give back. I wanted to make a difference in someone's life. In honor of my mom and in the true spirit of the holiday.

Mom was a caring, giving and loving woman. She never refused to help anyone and always had a smile for everyone. She fought many battles and had great sorrow during her life but, never lost her humanism. We didn't have a lot when I was growing up but, the kitchen was always open and had plenty of food for all.

When it came time to decided how to go about giving back, I decided to use Pink Kitty Radio as a vehicle to accomplish my goal. I posted a Facebook status to ask "friends" to help me by emailing me with nominations for families in need of help to have a better Christmas. I was contacted by several people with details about families they knew. I told Chrissy about the emails I had received and with her blessing I began to play Mrs. Claus. I've never been so humbled and grateful for my life and proud of my partner and my mom. By December 24th, Chrissy and I helped 7 families, 2 day-care centers, 2 individuals, a no kill shelter and an animal rescue fund with gifts and donations.

Chrissy and I would like to encourage and empower everyone to pass along the love and goodness that they may receive in their life. It doesn't take much to make an impact in other's lives. Help a neighbor carry their groceries. Feed a friend's pet while they are away. Help a sick friend by running their errands for them. If you have a few extra dollars, purchase some food items to donate to your local food pantry location or some personal hygienge items for a local homeless shelter. You never know who your gift is going to help and how they in turn will pass it along.
