In March 2004, my mom passed away. She was my best friend and my life hasn't been the same without her. In February 2008, my father passed. With both of them gone and their estate being settled, I found myself with an opportunity of a lifetime. Once the holiday season started, Chrissy asked me what I wanted for Christmas. I responded that I wanted to give back. I wanted to make a difference in someone's life. In honor of my mom and in the true spirit of the holiday.
Mom was a caring, giving and loving woman. She never refused to help anyone and always had a smile for everyone. She fought many battles and had great sorrow during her life but, never lost her humanism. We didn't have a lot when I was growing up but, the kitchen was always open and had plenty of food for all.
When it came time to decided how to go about giving back, I decided to use Pink Kitty Radio as a vehicle to accomplish my goal. I posted a Facebook status to ask "friends" to help me by emailing me with nominations for families in need of help to have a better Christmas. I was contacted by several people with details about families they knew. I told Chrissy about the emails I had received and with her blessing I began to play Mrs. Claus. I've never been so humbled and grateful for my life and proud of my partner and my mom. By December 24th, Chrissy and I helped 7 families, 2 day-care centers, 2 individuals, a no kill shelter and an animal rescue fund with gifts and donations.
Chrissy and I would like to encourage and empower everyone to pass along the love and goodness that they may receive in their life. It doesn't take much to make an impact in other's lives. Help a neighbor carry their groceries. Feed a friend's pet while they are away. Help a sick friend by running their errands for them. If you have a few extra dollars, purchase some food items to donate to your local food pantry location or some personal hygienge items for a local homeless shelter. You never know who your gift is going to help and how they in turn will pass it along.

We're Here!
So, I should probably introduce us. My name is Jennifer and my partner is Chrissy. We're lesbians. Thank you. Thank you. We're pretty proud of that too. I brought the idea for a weekly/bi-weekly recorded show to Chrissy at the beginning of November 2009. She laughed. And, then I explained to her what I wanted to do. I told her that I want to run my own website, record a show for the LGBTQ community, be ourselves, read some news, maybe give away stuff with contests and just have fun with it. It would be my new hobby. After the lightbulb went on above her head and she had an "a-ha" moment, I started doing some research. I contacted one of my best friends who is a computer/IT guru and explained to him what I was looking for. Before you know it, www.pinkkittyradio.com was born. Our debut show was recorded on November 21, 2009 and I'll be honest.. it sucked. lol I wasn't very familiar with the audio computer program that we use, the music was a lot louder than us talking and there was too much music, not enough us. So, we changed the format and recorded again the next week. Gradually, we've gotten better and so has the show.
One of the things that I've enjoyed about having the Pink Kitty Radio Show is finding gay/lesbian bands to play. One of my favorites happens to be a group local to Long Beach, CA. Ask Alice hasn't been playing together for very long but, their music and their sound say differently. I originally found them on Facebook and saw the link to some of their music on their Myspace page. After listening to their music, I contacted their lead singer Annie Parkhurst and asked where I could get more. I immediately downloaded their cd, Loaded, on iTunes and played one of their songs on the show. Ask Alice was a huge hit with me and Chrissy as well as our listeners. A few days later, I was looking through Facebook statuses and saw that Annie had posted that Ask Alice was looking for sponsors for a show they are planning. After getting more info, I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of something great. In mid December 2009, Chrissy and I had the pleasure of meeting Annie and her partner. She told us a little bit about the annual show that Ask Alice started in 2008, called Cut & Paste Rock & Roll.
I now have the great pleasure to announce that on February 5, 2010 at DiPiazza's Restaurant in Long Beach, CA Pink Kitty Radio presents CPRR! Cut & Paste Rock & Roll is a night of celebration and recognition of queer musicians, artists, DIY crafts, gay friendly business and fashion of the greater Los Angeles area. People from all over Long Beach, Los Angeles, Orange County, Riverside, San Diego, Bakersfield and more gather together to be apart of this event every year. The queer performers range from indie bands to spoken text and art is displayed on the walls, table tops...and people! You'll find crafts on every table allowing every attendee to make their own queer art all night for free. While supplies last each attendee will receive the CPRR gift bag aka the "Queer Survival Kits" 2009 will include fun treats from: Condom Rev, Daisy Rock Guitars, Queer Control Records, Speak Easy Sweets, Pink Kitty Radio, The New Gay and more. You can find more information at www.cutandpasterockandroll.com.
Chrissy and I are very excited about the future of Pink Kitty Radio and look forward to many successful years of recording.
